Technical Context

2008 marks the mass adoption of openly programmable, internet-connected, location-aware, omnipresent mobile devices. The ensuing revolution of business and consumer behavior will be compared to Ford's Model-T, the first mass market car.

Unlike the PC revolution of the eighties however, the hardware interfaces this time around will NOT standardize, for two reasons: (1) design tradeoffs like keyboard vs. touchscreen are irreconcilable at handheld scale, and (2) the hardware folks are firmly entrenched, e.g. RIM and Apple will never agree to standard hardware.
